This sculpture presents one of the most ornate versions of Kal IX, the most iconic character in Tomás Barceló’s universe. The face, segmented like a mechanical mask, is covered in delicate blue and white patterns reminiscent of traditional ceramic designs. The contrast between technological structure and handcrafted ornamentation creates a captivating tension between the ancient and the futuristic. The calm, vacant gaze of the character evokes an enigmatic presence, as if it held distant knowledge or belonged to a long-lost civilization.
Sculpture carved in plaster, based on a cast from a fine grog refractory clay model, and reproduced in resin. Painted with shellac, chalk paint, acrylics, and varnish.
