While the story of the civil peace flag was erroneously constructed over the years from accounts in Nathaniel Hawthorn's book "The Scarlet Letter" and the actual 19th Century US Customs Ensign and Signal, it's still a popular banner for liberty lovers as it's meant to signify civil as opposed to military authority.
While it's largely ahistorical, its enjoyed by many. In the early 2000s, its lore picked up, especially with Ron Paul supporters and American libertarians. We began producing a modern version with all 50 stars around then and now sell them with a vintage teastain look.
