The Reinsman Josey Mitchell Gooseneck Go Around Shank Gag Bit is a co-designed bit by the Hall of Fame and World Champion Barrel Racer, Martha Josey and her leading instructor, Ty Mitchell. It features stops on the 8 1/2" shanks that help the copper wrapped dog bone mouthpiece stay in place for the right amount of gag action, while the longer shank increases leverage for added control. The 3 piece mouthpiece offers additional leverage to the corners of the mouth, providing a more responsive feel. This bit is ideal for those seeking more control and help with shaping their horse for turns. The longer shank offers additional leverage, while the slide cheek piece enables shaping and rounding out the horse in the turn. It is recommended for intermediate to advanced level horses in competition. The large ring at the top of the bit is the headstall ring, with the curb chain ring off the back of it, sitting slightly higher up on the jaw. The small ring on the purchase just below the headstall ring serves as the stop for the slide of the mouthpiece and is not intended for curb attachment. The lower ring is the rein connection ring. It is important to use this bit with a curb chain or strap to prevent the shanks from twisting beyond a 45 degree angle when engaged.
