"In January and February 1971, Si Daty Ould Abba, the godfather of Moorish music and his wife Mounina Mint Eide did two extended recording sessions at the Boussiphone studios in Casablanca. As a result, sixteen 45rpm singles and five LPs were produced. These were the only commercial recordings made by Si Daty and Mounina and some of the first studio recordings of Mauritanian music. The singles were distributed and sold, but the LPs never got a commercial release and therefore no sleeves were made for these records. These albums remained unknown until we found a limited batch of unplayed stock copies at the Boussiphone archives a few years ago."
