This compact optical transceiver is designed to extend professional SDI workflows far beyond the limits of coaxial cabling by converting high‑bandwidth 12G‑SDI signals to optical fiber. It is intended for use in compatible Blackmagic Design devices that feature an SFP optical fiber slot, such as Mini Converters and Teranex Mini models, enabling reliable long‑distance transmission of broadcast video with embedded audio. By using optical fiber, signal integrity is preserved over distances that would be impossible with traditional SDI cables, making it ideal for studios, OB vehicles, live events and large venue installations.

The module supports full‑bandwidth 12G‑SDI, allowing transport of SD, HD, Ultra HD and DCI 4K video formats up to 2160p60. Automatic multi‑rate handling ensures seamless compatibility with connected equipment, whether the signal is standard definition or high‑frame‑rate Ultra HD. Embedded audio is carried transparently alongside the video signal, maintaining a complete broadcast stream without additional cabling or configuration. Designed around a standard SFP form factor, this optical adapter uses a single‑mode fiber interface and operates at a wavelength of 1310 nm, as specified for compatible Blackmagic optical workflows. The LC fiber connector allows the use of widely available and cost‑effective fiber cabling commonly found in IT and broadcast facilities. When paired with compatible hardware, optical links can span distances of up to approximately 16 km, dramatically extending the reach of SDI signals while remaining fully compliant with SMPTE standards for optical SDI transport.
