This rack based fibre interface is designed to sit at the studio or outside broadcast end of a professional SMPTE fibre workflow, acting as the central hub between remote cameras and standard broadcast equipment. By converting a single hybrid fibre connection back into familiar video, audio, control and power connections, it enables cameras to be positioned up to 2 km away without compromising quality, latency or operational safety.
Using industry standard SMPTE 311M hybrid fibre with SMPTE 304 connectors, the unit delivers all essential signals and provides full power to the camera and accessories. Built in multi layer safety monitoring continuously checks cable integrity before and during operation. Power is only enabled once safe conditions are confirmed, and is instantly disabled if a fault is detected, making it suitable for permanent installations as well as touring broadcast environments.
At the studio end, it converts the fibre link into a 12G SDI camera feed supporting both HD and Ultra HD formats up to 2160p60, alongside three independent HD return feeds. These return paths can be used for program, preview, teleprompter or graphics, and also carry embedded camera control, tally, genlock and intercom data for seamless integration with modern production switchers. All video and data are transported using standard IP internally to ensure extremely low latency broadcast quality performance.
Monitoring and control are enhanced by an integrated 5 inch LCD screen on the front panel, allowing operators to view the incoming camera signal and return feeds directly at the rack. Comprehensive talkback support is included, with dual channel intercoms for production and engineering, tracker talkback, and tally signals, making coordination with camera operators straightforward during live shows. The system is designed to pair directly with a compatible camera side fibre unit, forming a complete end to end fibre solution for studio and OB workflows.
This converter is ideal for studios, sports venues, theatres and houses of worship where cameras need to be placed far from the control room, yet still require full power, control and monitoring from a single, robust connection.
