A fabulous, authentic 19th century French billot de boucher or butcher block, circa 1890s, handcrafted of mixed woods including maple by Trussant & Cie in Sainte-Livrade sur Lot for a boucherie in Lyon, having a shaped and removable backsplash with original mounted iron steer head and iron rod where the butcher would tap the back of his knife to remove any particles. The thick carving surface has a beautiful patina and authentic wear from generations of use. Banded with iron braces, the butcher block with original Trussant & Cie brass label sits over a scalloped apron with a single deep drawer for storing knives. Raised on heavy turned fluted legs. A very desirable size, this authentic butcher block with its removable backsplash is a perfect addition to any French kitchen.
